New to Podcasting and Blogs?
Podcasting is a Web-based method of listening to audio files on your computer or mobile device (e.g., iPod). Podcasts are just another name for MP3 files that involve speech rather than music. You can listen to our podcasts by clicking on the Play Podcast links in the podcast blog or by subscribing to our podcast RSS feed. Need help with podcasts?
(See Wikipedia: Podcasting)
Blogs are online journals that are often focused on a specific topic. DBAzine blogs cover subjects related to, or arising from, the database industry. You can read our blogs online or subscribe to them through RSS.
(See Wikipedia: Blogs)
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is an easy way to keep updated about topics you like. Instead of coming to DBAzine to see if a new article or podcast has been published, RSS will advise you automatically each time we have something new in your area(s) of interest. My Yahoo, Google, Bloglines, iTunes and Pluck are all examples of software that can use RSS to automatically provide you with updates.
DBAzine has several RSS feeds available.
Setting up Bloglines
There are many different RSS readers to choose from. We recommend that those who are new to RSS use bloglines.com, a free, simple Web interface, as their reader.
- Sign up at bloglines.com.
- Once youve logged in to the Web site, you will see a number of navigation tabs. Click on My Feeds.
- Click the word Add (below My Feeds in the pane to the left).
- At the right-hand side of your browser, you will see a few form fields. In the field labeled Blog or feed URL, paste the URL of your feed.
- Click the Subscribe button.
- You will see the final form now. You dont need to change anything. Click Subscribe again.
Youve now set up your feed. We also recommend that you install the Bloglines Notifier. This small program will alert you via a task bar icon when new content is published.
